The gulf of Nicoya is a spectacular paradise, teeming with wildlife above and below the surface. The area has one of the world’s highest concentration of biodiversity. The paddling is world class and with lots of islands to explore, the dazzling variety is overwhelming as we cruise through the tranquil gulf water.

Full day sea kayak tour overview

Your full day sea kayak tour starts between 8-9 am with basic kayaking instruction at the Bahia Rica beach (see google map). With gear, water, snacks and lunch packed in our kayaks we head out on the water. The destinations are numerous depending on tide, current, wind and your level of experience. To mention some examples, we can visit the endangered Spider monkeys at a nearby island, go snorkeling, explore the Paquera mangroves or kayak around some of the bird islands. Spectacular views and rugged coastline will be experienced, as well as virgin beaches and small fishing villages.

We will normally kayak for 1 - 2 hours between the different short beach stops. We’ll have a longer break for lunch and some shore exploration and swimming.
We will be back at the Bahia Rica beach at about 4pm.
Kayaking allows us to travel in a way that is naturally interactive with the environment. We can’t imagine a more memorable way for you to immerse yourself in the rich life of this region.

Bahia Rica has offered sea kayak tours for over 10 years and offers personalized tours. The selection of routes for our sea kayak full day tours will excite those seeking an adventure that’s active and a little different. We have routes to suit beginner or experienced paddlers and we welcome those traveling as couples or with family and friends.

The waters and landscape we travel in are a paddler’s dream. Throughout the year, we enjoy gentle sea conditions and sunny weather.

Each trip we offer includes an introduction to kayaking to make sure that everybody is comfortable and ready to go. Here you will learn the safety aspects of this activity, some of the gear considerations and proper paddling techniques. Your qualified guide will make sure that your kayak is fitted properly and that your sitting position is correct. After the orientation, we hit the water and start exploring!

Tours are limited to 10 paddlers. This provides unlimited access to the guide for answering questions and taking care of any instructional needs while on the water. Smaller groups allow us to get on the water quicker, spending less time at the beach handing out equipment, as compared to large groups commonly seen in Costa Rica. We also have far less impact on beaches and shoreline habitat we visit. From safety to your overall experience, small groups are the best way to travel.
